Obama a smoker?

So the media did a good job covering this one during the election--not. I don't know that it would have made any difference in the outcome of the November election, but I am surprised to discover that President Elect Obama is a smoker, and has even admitted to falling off the wagon several times during the campaign.

I just have a hard time wrapping my head around how someone can't even take the advice of EVERY medical expert in the world. I guess I've also never been addicted to something. Unless you count solitaire...haha!

You would be surprised. I mean his wife was in Health Care.

Although, this isn't all too surprising. Look at doctors that smoke and drink and don't work out. That's pretty hypocritical to me...i'm just sayin' is all.

Of all of the drugs (legal and illegal) nicotine is very high on the list (if not the hightest) when it comes to the percentage of people who try/use it and become addicted.

Very interesting. I don't know that it would have changed the election at all either, but still...don't you just love the liberal bias in the media?

Funny we didn't at least see a photo of him smoking.

No, it wouldn't have changed the election. Especially not in our "your body, your business" society.

You really didn't know that he was a smoker? I thought it was brought up quite often during the election. He even talked about his wife encouraging him to quit a couple of times (maybe that was on the Ellen show). We must have watched different stations. I'm with you though, it's amazing how well educated people can do something so medically stupid. I must not understand addiction, either.

P.S.- Don't miss me too much at work today. I have the worst food poisoning ever.

I mainly follow CNN and RealClearPolitics.com, and I didn't see anything on either of those.

I never saw any photos with cigarettes, either. Maybe now he'll be too busy to keep the habit.

We may find there are other things the media chose not to let us know. We'll give him a chance. I'd love to see him be successful but in four years the country will either re-elect him or choose to give someone else a chance.

Yay for the BBC...it's where I get most of my news, and they mentioned it here and there. It was also mentioned on POTUS '08, but then...what wasn't?

Yeah... I think it definitely diminishes his image. I would hope that he quits now that everyone knows. It'd show some self mastery which is something I'd hope our president would have.

Yeah, there is something about this that makes me feel sick. Maybe it's what you said about not following medical experts' advice. Maybe it's because smoking is amazingly disgusting. At any rate, it certainly reveals a serious weakness in my eyes.
