I had the same thing happen with my computer! It is a simple fix if you have the same thing...Do you have an antiVirus 2009 alert that always pops up and says you have a virus so you need to buy the program? If you do, that is the problem. Just run a virus check (the free AVG 8.0 works just fine if you don't already have one) and it will take it right away. Those virus people really need to get a life... :)
Not so long ago when I saw a similar screen and they took my child away to the computer hospital... ah, the memories.
I once lost a 10-page paper to the computer crashing. I know how you feel. Why didn't I push SAVE!!???!! Just once? WHAT was I thinking? Luckily that was in high school and my teacher was nice enough to give me an extension. I hard to start over.
Anyway, been there. I feel for ya. Good luck with that. I'll try to post shorter comments in the future.

The EXACT same thing happened to me! It was awful! Good luck getting everything fixed!
